Kodokan Judo

Kodokan Judo is a modern Japanese martial art founded in 1882 by Jigoro Kano, combining traditional jujutsu techniques with a philosophy centered on mutual respect and personal development. As both a self-defense system and an Olympic sport, Judo emphasizes throws, pins, joint locks, and strangles—prioritizing technique and leverage over brute strength.

The word "Judo" means “the gentle way,” reflecting its core principles of Seiryoku Zen’yō (maximum efficiency, minimum effort) and Jita Kyōei (mutual welfare and benefit).
